French CSG and CRDS Eligible as a Foreign Tax Credit
In 2019, the United States and France came into an agreement that French Contribution Sociale Generalisee (CSG) and Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale (CRDS) taxes are not social taxes. Individuals who paid or accrued CSG and CRDS but did not claim them, can file amended tax returns to claim a foreign tax credit.
IRS Relief Procedures for Certain Former US Citizens
The IRS recently announced a relief procedure for certain individuals who have relinquished their U.S. citizenship and who wish to come in compliance with the U.S. tax laws. The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the relief procedure:
- Relinquised U.S. citizenship after March 18, 2010
- No filing history as a U.S. citizen or resident
- Net worth is less than $2,000,000 at the time of repatriation
- Aggregate total liability of $25,000 or less for the five years preceding expatriation
